The failure of moral studies

16-year-old Lai Ying Xin was abducted and murdered, the suspects has already been arrested by police. What was in the mind of these killers that they demanded ransom money from her parents when she is already dead? The question is : What next?

The majority of the suspects detained are barely 18 years old. Under the law, the MAXIMUM punishment they get if they are guilty of kidnapping and murder is to be sent to juvenile detention centre until they reach the age of 21. After their release, they will be a serious threat to our community. This is your privilege as a juvenile guilty of committing a serious crime. They are also many cases where armed robbery by juvenile causing death to the victim but they too escape with a light punishment.

It is time to change, time to impose heavy punishment to juveniles who commit all these types of crime. Just sentence them to death as they are inhumane, strangling her to death with their bare hands and torching her body. Even in normal cases, murderer can sometimes be charged with the lesser manslaughter. These people are even worse than animals. Animals do care, and that’s why my mom sometimes says that it is better to keep a pet.

Does the government knows that the Malaysian education system is a failure? What did students learn from their Moral Studies? Students today just memorize the 36 so called “nilai murni” and they get an A in SPM. This is what they know. They spit and throw rubbish everywhere along the road when the dustbin is just beside them. Teenagers nowadays are worse compared to teenagers in the 1960s although they were not schooling. Teenagers of this generation are mostly “biadap” that maybe school dropouts behave better.

I hope that the Education ministry look into the Moral Studies subject. Don’t just let students memorize solely from the textbooks, it isn’t much use if you get an A but behave like an animal.

And lastly, all murderers, regardless of age, should be hanged to death.

The Ferrari BIAS!!!

Last Sunday’s Belgian F1 Grand Prix was the most exciting race of the racing calendar. It featured maybe one of the best overtaking manoeuvre when McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton overtook Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen on the start-finish straight to take the race lead on the penultimate lap. Lewis won the race, and with the F1 season entering its finale, he had gained an upper hand in terms of confidence.

But two hours after the prize presentation ceremomy, Lewis was punished with a 25-second penalty which saw him demoted to third place. Felipe Massa was declared the winner with the dubious decision of the three race stewards. The reason : Lewis gained advantage by cutting the chicane of the last corner of the lap. Such a stupid decision it was!

In fact, Lewis did let Kimi regain the lead of a full car length on the start-finish straight. It was Kimi who could not sustain the pressure, driving defensively into the first corner. So, Lewis dived right to take the lead. The duel was so interesting that it kept everyone on the edge of their seats. In other words, pure genius stuff by Lewis to pull off the overtaking move. The telemetry proved that Lewis was 6kph slower than Kimi on the start-finish straight. Why punish a guy to is a pure genius and didn’t do anything wrong?

Ferrari is fast becoming a laughing stock, always resorting to dirty tactics to win races, the drivers’ and constructors’ championship. Another case involved was the McLaren-Ferrari spying saga where McLaren were stripped of all their points and were fined a hefty US$100 million. Maybe McLaren is a threat to them and all the boardmembers of the FIA are Ferrari fans!

Team Ferrari, this is not the way to win. If you really want to win the constructors’ and drivers’ title, win them cleanly. Do it on track, not with the help of the race stewards and FIA. Do not resort to dirty tactics!

A Letdown For Malaysian Football Fans

As a die-hard football fan, I was so excited when Chelsea football club, bankrolled by billionaire Roman Abramovich will play our National football team in the Shah Alam Stadium. I thought that after a five year lapse, I am finally able to witness our National team testing themselves against the world-class footballers from Chelsea. The last time we played against Chelsea in the FAPL in 2003, the match was telecast live on national television. Although I am a Liverpool fan, I’m still eager to see players such as Michael Essien, Frank Lampard, Deco and Michael Ballack playing in Malaysia.

But yesterday, I searched the TV guide in major newspapers to check whether the Chelsea versus Malaysia friendly match will be broadcast live on national television. To my disappointment, but as I had predicted earlier, NO LIVE TELECAST! Not even on Astro SuperSports. I wonder if TV1, TV2, TV3, NTV7, 8TV and TV9 have any financial difficulties. The sports coverage on national television is getting from bad to worse. For example, no more live telecast for Formula One and the European Champions League.

The Chelsea versus Malaysia friendly match was eagerly awaited by all Malaysians, even amongst non-football fans. Is it a plot by the FAM, or in this case, the organiser Pro Events, to ban screening the match live to force we Malaysians to go to the Shah Alam stadium to watch the match? The tickets are priced at RM33, RM53, RM83, RM103 and RM303 for VIP tickets respectively. It may be just a fraction of about RM5000 we need to pay to travel to Anfield, Old Trafford, Emirates Stadium or Stamford Bridge to catch the EPL stars live in action. Is it that affordable for Malaysians to travel to Shah Alam? I will not spend that money especially after the recent fuel hike. After all, a return trip from Ipoh to Shah Alam Stadium including match ticket will cost me a fortune as I am still a 19-year-old student. The timing of the match was not in my favour as I still have to attend classes the following day.

All the national television channels, TV1 as the main culprit, should have telecasted the Chelsea versus Malaysia friendly match instead of all those boring MSL and Malaysia Cup matches played in near empty stadiums. I will rather do my revisions than watching Malaysian football. Astro for example, has been showing advertisements since two weeks ago that they are the official broadcaster, but they are screening the delayed telecast a day after the match, when all the excitement has long gone. Astro the “Official Delayed Broadcaster” perhaps?

All this made me wonder: were they instructed by certain “parties” not to live-telecast the match. What is the big deal to tell all Malaysians that the match will be telecast live in England, Italy, Portugal, Balkans, Serbia, Poland, CIS States, Indonesia, China, South Korea, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, the Middle East, but NOT in Malaysia? Why let only 50,000 odd fans watching the match while depriving other interested Malaysians from watching this exciting match? How about those who failed to get tickets? After all, how often does a famous club such as Chelsea visit Malaysia?

Luckily, I was able to get the final score from the internet and some highlights from YouTube – the video sharing website. I thought our goalkeeper Mohd Helmi Eliza Elias had a great game although he conceded two goals. Who knows he might have impressed some scouts from European clubs?

Can Malaysian television channels improve their sports coverage by bringing back to all Malaysian live telecast of exciting sports events such as Formula One and the 2008/2009 European Champions League?
